Description
The Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni) is a small, colorful invertebrate native to the coral reefs and rocky substrates of the Western Atlantic. Known for its algae-eating habits, this species reaches a maximum adult size of 5in (12.7cm). Its peaceful temperament and moderate activity level make it suitable for community aquariums. Care is straightforward, requiring stable water parameters, moderate flow, and lighting, along with a well-maintained tank that provides both hiding spots and open swimming areas.
As an omnivore, it thrives on a varied diet, consuming detritus and leftover food, though it may need supplemental meaty foods. Ideal conditions include a minimum tank size of 20gal (75L), and it is compatible with most reef-safe fish and invertebrates, contributing beneficially to the aquarium ecosystem. Regular feeding and stable water conditions are essential for its well-being.
